Dr. Leung has more than twenty years of practical/teaching experience in the construction industry/education and has participated in a number of prestigious construction projects in Hong Kong. Since January 1999, she has been teaching at the City University of Hong Kong, involving broad surveying, construction engineering and management subjects such as construction development and economic, building studies, value management, project evaluation, construction research paper, surveying studios, etc. Dr. Leung is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in the RICS in the UK and the HKIS in HK and a Charted Builder in the CIOB in the UK and AIB in Australia. She is also a Certified Value Specialist of the SAVE International 'The Value Society' in USA and the HKIVM (List A) for facilitating governmental 'VM workshop' in the industry internationally. Dr. Leung's current interesting researches cover construction project management, value management, stress management, facility management, and construction education. She attracted over HK$ 13 million as Investigator in 34 professional and research projects in 10 years. All current research projects are being investigated on the basis of a human behavioral paradigm and project management knowledge, which will assist and support the construction engineers throughout design, construction and operation stages. There are over 100 publications in construction engineering and management at present.

Miss YU is a PhD candidate at the City University of Hong Kong. During her study period, she has published refereed papers in the international journals and conferences to prove her research ability. At present, she has being studied the value management (VM) and applied the VM logical procedure into public engagement for construction projects. To become a professional in the VM field, she achieved the qualification of Associate Value Specialist recognized by the Society of American Value Engineering (SAVE International) in the USA. She also joined several VM workshops in the construction industry. In fact, she had participated into a number of internal and external research projects including VM, project management and stakeholder management.
Abstract:Value management (VM) has been applied into construction projects for identifying project goals, making effective decisions and achieving participant satisfaction. In practice, VM techniques are tailored with respect to different project characteristics and clients' requirements. However, it is still uncertain for the relationship between VM techniques and the workshop outcomes. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted to examine the complicated relationships between VM techniques and workshop outcomes. The findings indicate that condensed information techniques exert negative impact on the final outcomes, while both function analysis and creativity techniques can positively affect workshop outcomes. Based on the results, we proposed several practical recommendations to stimulate effective participation and improve VM performance, including extending workshop duration, preparing sufficient information and adopting function analysis techniques logically.
